If you use Samba v2.x, you can use SWAT (Samba Web Admin Tool) and setup
passwords. The Samba passwords are kept separate from the main linux
system. NT Servers' Server Manager thinks my linux boxes are NT-4.2!! :)

You could try "mars" or another similar Novell Server emulator, or you
could use Samba with the DOS MS Lanmanager client. Mars can be found at
sunsite.
