If you have a choice, consider using IMAP instead.  The IMAP server
software package from the University of Washington also includes POP2 and
POP3 servers.  Instructions are included.  See
http://www.washington.edu/imap/ for more information and source code.  
Binaries are available in RPM format (included with Red Hat and Mandrake
distributions), though make sure you get the latest security update.
