It's not only possible, is The Right Thing (TM) to do with fetchmail,
most people use it to harvest the mail from different accounts to the
local mail box, it has a nice configuration file where you specify the
servers and accounts to get, also a daemon mode where runs in the
background and polls the mail accounts on a specified amount of time.
Try man fetchmail, or see the web page.
