Your target system must (most of these are obvious)
Support WOL (Wake-On-LAN)
Have a WOL cable connecting the card and motherboard for stand-by power
Have a ATX power supply (some motherboards can use either AT or ATX power)
Some hardware, for instance the 3c905B, requires the driver to configure the
card and explicitly enable WOL. The PNIC-2, RTL8139A and RTL8139B chips can
read their WOL info from the EEPROM when stand-by power is first applied.
Even ignoring that I'm the one doing the work in the former case, I much
prefer the latter semantics.
