hi everybody,
in my attemp to build up a gateway for my home-net to the inet
i'm actually bothering with ip-chains.
actually i've set up an i486, 66mhz, 24mb, SuSE 6.1, 2.2.12, and
ipchains-1.3.9.
the 4 clients are one with WinNT4, 2 at Win95 and 1 at Win3.11.
the gateway is at the same time samba-server and is supposed to
work as a proxy.
pop3-access, smtp and www-mail are working, but i'm faced with
problems at www and ftp.
at the first thing ftp: not the thing about authorization or
active and passive ftp, but when i try to actualize with
ftp.suse.com for testing, yast wants to access the ftp-server
at ports about 1035 and above during setup, going up to 1311
during updating, breaking down if rejected or denied.
Is this ok?
Am i to give them free via ipchains only during updating?
secondly www: at the time when any of the http-requests were
handled and virtually masqued by squid nearly anything was ok
besides some assignation-errors, for example at gmx.net.
to avoid them i tried to setup squid as an real proxy and direct
access to the inet for the clients.
netscape 4.6 on WinNT4 now oftenly tries to connect to servers
via ports at 31k or 65k.
Is this ok?
Am i to give them free via ipchains only for specific
servers or globally 1025:, only during access or forever?
i hope someone can help me,
thanks in advance for your answers
Henning
PS: where can i get a complete /etc/services?
that one provided with SuSE 6.1 has only got the core
fragments.
