Subject: More PPP etc..
Hi all,
I am tired of all these auto, smart ui dialers..all fancy but never
worked for me..I might be doing something wrong..
any case I decided to go the manual way..as described in the PPP howto..
I fireup minicom and dial into my ISP..
then at the host: prompt type PPP
then enter my user name and then also my password..there is some junk
that is thrown out..as expected.. and then I quit minicom w/o resetting
teh modem..
Then I type(as root)
pppd -d -detach /dev/ttys0 38400 &
(My pppd version is 2.3.7, my kernel is 2.2.11 and using mandrake 6.0)
and my /etc/ppp/options file is empty.
I can see LCP config requests being sent out...but after 5-6..it times
out..
also the ppp0 does not come up..
Here is the dump of the log mesgs:
Nov 10 13:56:50 arni pppd[1194]: pppd 2.3.7 started by root, uid 0
Nov 10 13:56:50 arni pppd[1194]: Using interface ppp0
Nov 10 13:56:50 arni pppd[1194]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0
Nov 10 13:57:20 arni pppd[1194]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Nov 10 13:57:20 arni pppd[1194]: Connection terminated.
Nov 10 13:57:20 arni pppd[1194]: Connect time 0.5 minutes.
Nov 10 13:57:21 arni pppd[1194]: Exit.
What exactly is going wrong now..??? Pls help
Thx,
Arni
