There is no reason to make it proprietary if it isnt better, so you are
right, there is a difference.
You get what you pay for. Some people dont have time to dick around with
the 12 things you have to install and configure in linux to come up with
something that still doesnt have nearly the capacity or the cleanliness of
what we give you. The term "commercial" implies that it has some value
over that which is "free" If you are playing in the lab, free is fine, if
you are running a business, maybe it isnt. If your paying some kid $60. an
hour to make the linux junk work...$495. for what we have is better than
free, becuase you are guaranteed to get something that performs as expected.
