Yes, I tried a myriad of "logical" and "illogical" options. The end result
was that I once could get both machines to understand their IP and the
peer IP. BUT, it didn't make the connection work. I'm thinking of rebooting
and trying again, or upgrading net-tools and such from 1.45
The funny thing is this worked out of the box in the era of kernel 1.3 or so...
I'd just say
ifconfig sl0 192.168.1.1 pointopoint 192.168.1.2
at both machines, add the routes and voila!
