It depends upon what's performing the DNS lookup. If fetchmail is
passing the message to sendmail, there are a number of things that can
be done to reduce the number of DNS lookups. Specifically, disabling
any features which result in any of the following map types will help:

        $[ ... $]
        $(host ... $)
        $(resolve ... $)
        $(mxserved ... $)
        $(bestmx ... $)

You can find which lines correspond to which features by looking at
the cf/m4/proto.m4 file.

Also if you are on a dial-up line, you should look into running a
caching DNS server at your end of it.
