My network (pure IP, no WINS) of a dozen Windows machines and a Linux
(Slackware 7, ppp-2.3.10) configured with Masquerading, DNS and Qmail.
Dial-on-demand seems to dial whenever connection is needed or not. It hangs
up sometimes, but it does not happen very often. For example, right now it
is connected but

linux:~$ netstat --inet
Active Internet connections (w/o servers)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State
tcp 0 126 linux.homerubber:telnet nt.homerubber.com:1519
ESTABLISHED

which is a regular LAN connection. Machines linux.homerubber.com and
nt.homerubber.com are in the DNS (192.168.0.x class network) and are
resolved by the local DNS no problem.

Where should I start digging in order to solve this problem of unwanted
dialups? Could Qmail be causing it? I am currently reading networking
HOW-TO's in a hope to find an answer...
