And so does Slackware. The simplest one of all, yet the most reliable. It
stores data in a good old .tar.gz format and has an install script that is
executed upon install. Very slick if you ask me.

Talking about reliablility you might again, wanna look at what qmail has to
offer. The Maildir format is super-duper reliable and even works over NFS.
Should your machine crash while receiving mail the chances are that your
Maildir format mail will survive is rather high.
