  I saw this same error message on a 2.2.12 system with 2 real SMC1211TX
EZCard devices.  I found that, for some weird reason, if I switched the
master slot (in bios) to the other SMC Card then it worked fine.  I didn't
investigate any further.  I don't know why it happened.
