I tried to install RH5.1 and encountered the following
problem. The mounting of the CD-ROM failed.

When this happens, there are other options to consider.
(ftp, other hard drive, etc) I tried the ftp option, to no avail.
Other options were not viable (i.e. there is no other
hard drive to install from, for example.)

Note: I have an ethernet link to a WinNT box which has dial-up
internet access, but the installation program did not
connect to the ftp service running on it.

I don't understand how a CD-ROM drive would not be
recognized by the installation program, especially
since both the BIOS and the kernel report the presence
of an iso9660 device.

As far as I know, there is nothing special about the CD-ROM
drive, and I'm certain that it is connected properly.

Is there a way to install a "bare bones" Linux using floppies,
and only floppies? This would at least permit a login to occur.
