Some sites attempt to authenticate the person trying to connect via port
113 (ident, or auth). Some perform this in parallel, while others require
the attempt to fail before continuing.
To speed things up, you can run an auth server on your Linux box -- make
sure it responds to globally routed IP packets if you are using MASQ.
It's a security thing...
