hello I have always had a weird issue with SuSE (6.2) in regards to DNS lookups. /etc/resolv.conf is pretty standard stuff...two nameservers of my ISP and also I stuck one in there for the nameserver of cse.unsw.edu.au (where I study) I cant ping www.cse.unsw.edu.au but I can ping web-1.orchestra.cse.unsw.edu.au abi@rocky:~ > dig ns @ns.telstra.net www.cse.unsw.edu.au <snip> ;; ANSWER SECTION: www.cse.unsw.edu.au. 25m21s IN CNAME web-1.orchestra.cse.unsw.edu.au. <snip> abi@rocky:~ > ping www.cse.unsw.edu.au ping: unknown host: www.cse.unsw.edu.au abi@rocky:~ > ping web-1.orchestra.cse.unsw.edu.au PING web-1.orchestra.cse.unsw.edu.au (129.94.242.46): 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 129.94.242.46: icmp_seq=0 ttl=246 time=197.422 ms 64 bytes from 129.94.242.46: icmp_seq=1 ttl=246 time=240.043 ms 64 bytes from 129.94.242.46: icmp_seq=2 ttl=246 time=160.041 ms --- web-1.orchestra.cse.unsw.edu.au ping statistics --- 3 packets transmitted, 3 packets received, 0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max = 160.041/199.168/240.043 ms what is going on???
