resolv.conf allows multiple domains to be specified via the "search"
directive (as opposed to the "domain" directive, which only allows a
single domain). The only thing which the domain/search directives
affect is the handling of unqualified hostnames.
Many other configuration files allow multiple domains (httpd.conf,
sendmail.cf).

Yes.

You have to tell sendmail which domains are local via the file
/etc/sendmail.cw (or /etc/mail/sendmail.cw; look for "Fw" in
sendmail.cf).
