Hi folks,

my name is rob and i am a projekt engineer with a small company in bavaria.
here is my latest problem:
i have a pretty old NIC (ISA) and i want that thing to be recognized under
Debian-Linux Version 2.0.38. But until now no
"eth0=......"-line can be found at boottime (mach.type=486DX2, 66MHz).

as i'm quite a newbie i've tried to get around compiling a custom kernel with
the appropriate drivers for the following reasons:
1) i don't know the manufacturer of the card :(((. all i know is that it uses
a UM9008F-Chipset from UMC. It don't have any jumpers for irq and/or base
adress. it has a coax AND a western socket for wiring and 2 green led's
visible when the card is built in. The FCC ID is HBQUMC900MG2. I can't find an
EA (Ethernet Adress) field either, which, according to the Ethernet HOWTO is
supposed to be printed on every ethernet card.
2) i tried to solve the problem using loadable modules, which i entered in my
/etc/module.conf file. of course i could only guess the right module, as i
don't know what driver i need. i read it could be a ne2000 or winbond8390
clone, so i tried ne.o and 8390.o but no success :(
3) i've tried to manually load the drivers using "insmod
/lib/.../<drivername>" but i didn'd get no feedback messages that the card was
found or something. i didn'd get no errormessages either.

- Does anybody out there know this nic, it's manufacturer and/or equivalent
(clone) types?
- Does anybody have a matching driver?
- Does anyone know about irq's and adresses used by this nic?
- Did i make a mistake when i loaded the modules? Pleas correct me if i could
have done anything wrong!

Thanx in advance
Rob
