How would one configure Redhat6 to have two default gateways so that in
the event that one of the gateways stopped working (still up just no traffic
flowing)
then send the packets out the other gateway. In win2k this is done with
simply with Metrics on
the default gateways.

I am using ipchains and 3 network cards. 1 for the local net and 1 for
each of the cable modems (one is really ADSL). I tried setting the metric
using the
route command and it didn't seem to do anything.

Can this be handled automatically? Each gateway address is assigned by DHCP
from the ISP when
the NIC's interface is brought up? Would it help if the gateways were set
statically (they don't
change often)?

Is iproute2, gated or zebra needed/useful to do this or can routed handle
it?

Any suggestions/comments are welcome.

Cheers,
Brent Welke
