You might want to try

http://www.psionic.com/abacus/portsentry/

if you are running a non-server box (eg, a home computer on cable). Leave a 
few ports open in the firewall and bind sentry to them, anyone hits them 
and you drop route them automagically.

I don't recommend using it for public servers because you can be DOS'd easily.
