Hello all :)

I recently acquired an Apricot Xen-II LS, and attempted to use the
onboard i82596 based ethernet adapter, bearing in mind the large

   *** Untested on Apricot hardware, and may require some hacking
   *** to make it work. The old 82596.c reported hasn't worked
   *** since 1.3.xx anyway. I have been unable to find any users
   *** of Apricot hardware to test this on.

warning at the top of the source. Believe it or not, it's right, it
doesn't work. Upon loading the module, the following is reported:

eth0: 82596 at 0x300, 7C D9 19 C0 40 0C IRQ 10.
82596.c:v1.0 15/07/98
eth0: lp at 0xc17e0cb0, lp->scb at 0xc17e0cc4

The MAC address starts 00 00 44, not 7C D9 19. When eth0 is ifconfiged,
I get this:

eth0: i596_open() irq 10.
eth0: init_rx_bufs 16.
eth0: starting i82596.
eth0: i82596 initialization timed out with status 0000, cmd 0000.
eth0: receive unit start timed out with status 0000, cmd 0100.
i82596 init timed out with status 0000, cmd 0010.

I also get exactly the same responses when the card is disabled in
the BIOS of the machine (and it is disabled, because I have a 3c509b
occupying the same IO space, which can be disabled too.)

(Incidently, I don't have any config utils to adjust the 3c509b's
parameters - is there such a util available, preferably for Linux?)

/peter
