add the following line to your /etc/conf.modules,
alias eth1 3c59x
and reboot, you should see the following from the boot message
3c59x.c:v0.99H 11/17/98 Donald Becker
http://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/linux/drivers/vortex.html
[followed by the io base and irq of your nic]
then you can use ifconfig to set the ip address, etc...
