Closing Sockets

Hi,

I'm looking for a command, a tool, a system call, ...  that allow me to
close a specific socket .

Well, I need sometimes to check if a socket is in a good state
(ESTABLISHED) using netstat command, but if the socket I'm checking is
in a bad status (CLOSE  for example), I note that it stay in that status
and it disrupts my applications.
