Greetings, I've got a real head scratcher going on my home network. I have a 2 node hubbed 10Mbit network at home. One node is my linux box, RH 6.2 w/ RH 2.2.16-3 kernel RPM with 2 NICs and a RoadRunner cablemodem one eth0 and the local ethernet on eth1. The second node is a Windows 98 system. Both are connected to a dumb little NetBus 8 port 10Mbit hub. I have linux set up with ipchains to IP Masq the internal network to the cablemodem interface and I run a split DNS system on the linux system to provide minimal name service for the windows box. Everything worked fine for several weeks and then the windows box started developing problems accessing websites, and with having AOL connections via TCP/IP disconnected randomly and often. I was using the pmfirewall script to provide the ipchains setup, trashed that and developed a minimal ipchains setup. That change didn't help anything. If we attach the cablemodem directly to the windows system it works fine. Re-attach it to the linux box and it start crapping out again. I've tried tcpdumping all traffic on both interfaces on the linux box and watching things as they happen. It appears that the windows box makes the initial connection to a website but after a 2 or 3 exchanges of packets, the remote site just stops sending anything..... Has anyone seen this kind of problem before and can you offer assistance? --[Lance] - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-net" in the body of a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
