A while back I posted some info regarding a problem with the nic hanging on my
mail server (Mandrake 6.1, kernel 2.2.13-7mdk - a pre-something release). This
machine has an Intel nic using the eepro100 module. I believe Alan indicated
that kernels < 2.2.15 or so had a problem with the eepro100 driver. (In my case
the driver rev is "eepro100.c:v1.06 10/16/98 Donald Becker")
Since the box is running (and has been for a while: 5:19pm up 103 days, 16:33,
2 users, load average: 1.00, 1.02, 1.00) I haven't bothered upgrading it. I did
however upgrade from a 10 Mbit/s hub to a 100 Mbit/s HDX switch (Cisco Cat 2820,
to be exact). Ever since I moved to the switch, this problem has gone away.
Just thought this was interesting!
