stateful packet filtering in linux

Hi, 
    Is there a  package/patch available to do "stateful packet
filtering" for 2.2.x ?  I wasnt able to find one.

Has anyone used IP masquerading to do stateful packet filtering
(Can you do IP masquerading without doing NAT or NAT to 
 identical addresses (self) and achieve stateful packet filtering
for TCP and UDP ?
