On older ifconfig (1.38) it actually worked but you're right that it does
nothing. I should definitely go to bed now.
Still ifconfig should not take 10 minutes to process a few thousand
addresses (it has a few badly scaling data structures, but 7000 should not
be enough yet to show it)
