You can try s95=45 for verbose modem messages including the DCE connect

Is there any add-on patch or another NFS implementaion for Linux that would
support file locking.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have a resource conflict, and your board is old enough to have
onboard jumpers that you will need to use to disable the onboard port. (or DIP
swithches?)

Remove the modem, and when you boot up, pause the system at the BIOS banner
screen, and read what serial ports are detected at boot. if you see 2 different
ones, then you will have to find that pesky jumper or header that needs a jumper
to disable, that is if the board manufacturer decided to let you disable it.
even a 14.4K modem is new enough to almost certainly have a 16550A UART, so I
think that you are seeing the on-board port.

Hi all,

We are experiencing some problems with NFS between Linux and Solaris.

The NFS server is on a PC running Redhat-5.2, kernel 2.2.3 (2.0.36 was also

The NFS client is Solaris 2.5.1 on Ultra.

Whenever the Solaris 2.5.1 writes a big file (few megs) back to the Linux
NFS server, I got some errors like "cannot write, is a directory", or "I/O

Hi Olve -

A few comments about your post.

1. I think it's great you're using the ftp backup feature -- I had hoped
people would do this when we decided to add the feature to Retrospect /
Retrospect Express.

2. Do you have File Sharing disabled via extension manager on the Mac that's
crashing? That's the only problem we know about with regards to ftp backups
and crashes. If so, you have a work-around until our next release. If not,
please do contact us so we can help figure out what the problem is.

Thanks!

I have already look at NFS mini-howto and other "official documents" but it

understood what I have to do.
Then I will be very pleased if anybody can help me.

I've finally gotten to the bottom of this. Turns out you should choose 3C905
support in make config--it will select the correct driver (3c59x.c) I have
no idea why the other driver wouldn't compile, but it doesn't matter as
that's not the one I should be using anyway.

Incidentally, I didn't run into many of the things others have apparently
experienced with the 3C905B on 2.2.2. No mem=, nothing else weird.

Hope this helps someone out there...

Well, kind of "Network Neighbourhood" is a proggie called knetmon - I
believe it's in kdenonbeta cvs snapshots now. It allows browsing SMB shares
and sometimes it recognizes even NFS shares on the LAN.

You may have to add users that have the same username / password to the
linux box. Also add them to the samba password file using smbpasswd. Do
"man smbpasswd" to get info on this.

You may need to insert the module ip_masq_ftp into the kernel to get FTP
connections to work correctly.

=46rom the other AIX-machines I can mount /home without any problems.

Daniel,

logged in as "root" type "insmod tlan" at the systme console. I had the same
problem with my Compaq Proliant 1600. After doing the "insmod tlan" you can
use "netconf" or "netconfig" (I can't remember which it is for sure) to
setup the reset of the network parms.

I'd like to propose something I have played with, but never actually used
anywhere, maybe some1 else can comment on this or maybe they use something
similar. What I did was to install Apache 1.3.x with the mod_php module.
php3 is a scripting language you embed within a web page, that allows you
to do all kinds of server side includes, including database conectivity.
As far as I remember it has ODBC, so you can use it to connect to an
Access database. On the other hand, you could use a different sql
database, I use postgres, but you said you already have Access in place :)
The big advantage of php to cgi is that it is a LOT faster.

As far as I can remember the url for the php stuff is www.php.net.

hope this helps.

Izak

I had a similar problem, but I am not at the box where I had VNC
running, so I don't know if I can give a complete answer. If I recall
correctly, it was because there was no route in the routing table to the
IP adddress that the windows box was seeing my linux box as. My
situation was linux <-> via TCP/IP over a serial cable. I was
frustrated since I could run a PC X server on the windows box just fine,
remotely running apps from the linux box. But VNC would give me the
grey screen. It turned out that although I had a loopback route to
localhost (127.0.0.1, as does everybody), I had to add a separate route
in the routing table to the "internal" IP address I had assigned to the
linux box (e.g. 192.168.0.2) as part of the TCP-over-serial connection.
Unlike running a remote X server, where you are displaying the remote
apps on a server on the remote box, VNC works by actually running the
"remote X server" on the "home box". Thus, unless you have a route to
that IP address (i.e. the IP address of the linux box, as seen by the
windows box) in the routing table, you can't send apps there to be
displayed.

Or else it is becuase you have no apps starting up in your startup file,
as someone else suggested.

Hope this helps.

Also, be sure that the inetd.conf line looks like:

telnet stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.telnetd

The "/usr/sbin/tcpd" is the most important, it lets the tcp-wrappers
security tools read and honor the hosts.deny/hosts.allow files.

The man page for the hosts.allow and deny files is hosts_access(5),
which is read by the command "man 5 hosts_access"

[Now really Colin, there is no need to say a "luser drooled".
Its really disrespecful and insulting. LART yourself ]
