Two Linux boxes? I think you want to use NFS to mount the CDROM.

Once NFS is up and running all you need to do is list the CDROM in the
/etc/exports file on the physical drive on which the drive resides.
Them mount it on the other machine.

I've got a problem with NFS on my network, I've set up the NFS server on
one linux box and exported /home to another linux machine for a while
which has worked without any problems. Now I've added another machine
set up like the first client with a kernel configured in the same way
(both with RH 5.2) and the second client refuses to mount the nfs system
without bitching for about one minute and giving me error messages
(included below). After complaining for approx one minute it mounts the
share and everything works just fine.....the same problem arises even if
I've just restarted nfs and portmap on the server and the second client
is the first one connecting to the NFS but this still doesnt
help...anyone who can help me?

Thanks in advance,

netscape is already installed on your system. It comes with every
distribution.
If it's not, install it from RedHat CD

Kent--

You may actually find that PnP is _off_, and that that is your problem. My
situation mirrors your own, as far as you describe it. When I turned on PnP
_in the BIOS_ (I assume the BIOS is what Eric meant), things started
working. I did that because I suspected an IRQ conflict--my card was being
assigned an Ethernet address of "all FF's" (ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff) at startup.

You don't happen to have a Dell, do you? They ship 'em with PnP _off_.

I don't know where to turn off pnp. I would normally go to the BIOS
system that runs before the machine boots, but LILO has taken over
that "space" and I don't know where to set my machine options any more.

I'm sure I haven't done anything special to the pnp and I'm happy to do
an experiment to see... I've seen no reference to PNP in the instructions
for any of this, but it makes snese that it would be an issue.

i'm running RH5.2, using the pre-installed ppp stuff. I managed to
get my modem connection to my isp working with a variation on the
ppp-on script that I found online, and can browse the web fine, but
can't connect TO MY OWN MACHINE to try a single player version of
freeciv. When I'm not connected to my isp, it finds the host fine,
but can't find the port, even though I specify it on the command line.
When I try while I'm connected to my isp, the client side of freeciv
locks up and i have to kill it. the same problem occurs with
crossfire, so i know its not in the game software, but in my ppp
configuration.

my ppp configuration files are as follows:

Try building a real, unmodified 2.0.36, with 3c509.c compiled
in. Don't use the RPM version of the 2.0.36 source from Red Hat.

Because of the strange boot time address assignment
scheme that was left when Microsoft's P-n-P collided with
3Com's pre-existing scheme, 3c509.c will often not work as a run-time
loadable module. If your BIOS lets you choose ISA interrupt
assignments, turn off Microsoft Plug and Play [tm] on the 3c509B
and assign an IRQ. If your BIOS will not let you assign an
ISA interrupt, you must let P-n-P do its thing and hope for
the best.

Complain to 3Com. Complain to Congress; if the antitrust law
had been kept up to date Microsoft Plug and Play alone would
have been sufficient grounds to revoke Microsoft's corporate charter.

IMHO people are asking here, because of lack of information (most answers
should be RTFM - and a hint where to find this manual, faq, howto, man,
info, LDP, LG ...)
I started as a newbie with SuSE Linux 6.0 and was able to setup a www, mail,
news, dns, time, print, samba, fax ... server & ISDN-gateway for my SOHO
network (NTs) without bigger troubles in 2 weeks.
Most time I spent was for searching information and reading (SuSE comes with
>15000 html documents & fulltext search in it and with man2html, info2html)
So if you have a good distribution with documentation setup properly I don't
think, people would ask that much.

just my 2c

You may have been cracked. It's safest to assume they succeeded.

You really should have firewall rules on your Internet interface that block
NFS, RPC, et. al., and to disable and remove NFS and other services you are
not using.

See http://www.wolfenet.com/~jhardin/ipfwadm.html for a firewall GUI that
will help.

Hi:

I just upgraded my 33K to a 56K internal modem (ZOOM). I did not see
any problems, modem was recognized nicely, dialup worked just fine.
However, when I try to download larger file with FTP the download just
stops after some 100KB. At this point the line is still up and I can
ping to the same location.

The same ftp works just fine from DOS.
I did try setserial spd_vhi, but this did not make any difference.

Can anybody help?
