I just upgraded my PC from RH6.0 to RH7.0. Under 6.0 I had it setup so that users log in from the console and then "startx" to get into X (runstate 3). I know, old technology, but it worked. Anyway, with the upgrade I accepted runstate 5 as my defualt so I would get a gui login. We'll I login at the gui interface, the screen flickers and then returns me to the login screen (still the gui one). If I do a cntl-alt-F1 bing! I'm back to the console as expected and can log into any of my accts. If I switch initab so that I'm back to runstate 3, startx works fine and all is well. Any ideas why I cannot get to the accts through the gui login? I have another machine that came with linux pre-installed (RH6.2) and has always been running with Runstate 5, and the upgrade didn't effect that at all. Thanks in advance -- -- R.
