Hello I've installed new kernel 2.4.2 and I'm getting a lot of troubles
with sound modules.
With older 2.2.18 no problems at all.
I tried to set the new /etc/modules.conf inserting aliases for my audio modules
and I get *no dependecies problem during system boot.*
Modules dependencies appear if I try to modprobe manually what I need for sound:
[root@linux /root]# modprobe mad16
/lib/modules/2.4.2-0.1.28/kernel/drivers/sound/mad16.o: init_module: No such
device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including
invalid IO or IRQ parameters
/lib/modules/2.4.2-0.1.28/kernel/drivers/sound/mad16.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.2-0.1.28/kernel/drivers/sound/mad16.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.2-0.1.28/kernel/drivers/sound/mad16.o: insmod mad16 failed
My /etc/modules.conf contains:
alias char-major-14 mad16
alias synth0 opl3
alias midi0 opl3
options opl3 io=0x388
options sb mad16=1
options mad16 io=0x530 irq=5 dma=0 dma16=1 mpu_io=0x300 mpu_irq=9 joystick=1
The problems appear also as hardware problems:
I see /dev/sequencer doesn't not esists or else
/dev/dsp doesn't not esists:
[root@linux Sounds]# playmidi exodus.mid
Playmidi 2.4 Copyright (C) 1994-1997 Nathan I. Laredo, AWE32 by Takashi Iwai

open /dev/sequencer: No such device
[root@linux Sounds]# ls -la /dev/seq*
crw------- 1 ik5bcu sys 14, 1 mar 24 02:11 /dev/sequencer
[root@linux Sounds]# ls -la /dev/ds*
crw------- 1 ik5bcu sys 14, 3 mar 24 02:11 /dev/dsp
crw------- 1 ik5bcu sys 14, 19 mar 24 02:11 /dev/dsp1
Really these devices are present on my system,
so I'm unable to figure out where the problem is.
