When you say you did "all the necessary steps", did that include consulting 
the Linux Printer Compatibility Database? That database lists the Lexmark 
1100 as working "partially" with Linux and provides some help about the 
details of making it work, including a reference to the lm1100 driver it 
requires. See http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=59008 
for the instructions.

Lexmark itself is apparently something less than helpful. See the Lexmark 
section of http://www.linuxprinting.org/vendors.html for details.

Good luck with this ... I think you'll need some luck.
