Thanks for all the feedback and info, I am staying busy researching all the
ideas presented. Gawk seems more file/pipe oriented and all I need to do is
parse an argument to a Bash script (LFN arg to SFN) and use the result to
control the creation of semaphores and downloading of files locally (if already
present, that one is skipped).

If I were under DOS, as I am more often than not, I would just write a quick &
simple Assembly program to handle things (plus a .Bat file, of course),
however, Linux is my first choice for Internet jobs, so back to school. :)
