Hello Ray and group- I have been reading the posts about Distro's and saw your comments about Debian. I obtained a copy of 3.0 a several months ago. I installed it and had it setup and running but never had it fine tuned. Last month I decided to start again. I have been having a pretty good time getting things working-- better then before, but for some reason I can't get one of the 'sound' features working that I did have working the first time. I am able to play cd's, realplayer works great but I can't get "saytime" to work. I don't have time right now to send the details, but just wanted to see if you may be able to help me with some 'Deb' problems. All the best- Neil T.
If you have problems with your Debian Woody setup, by all means post the details here. Whether I can help or not depends (naturally) on what the exact problem is. No user of a distro, any distro, knows *everything* about that distro, and I've never even heard of "saytime" before now.
But this is a good opportunity to point out something else -- to get help with a specific app, you need not get help from someone with the same distro. Sometimes knowledge of the app itself is more important. So if you post your problem description here, presented clearly enough that a user of any Linux distro will follow the explanation, someone who knows the app from (say) Red Hat or Slackware may be able to offer useful advice. Don't feel tied to your distro in looking for answers -- sometimes it matters, sometimes it doesn't.
