Build gaim with ssl support on. You will need mozilla installed with all the nss and related libaries along with openssl.

Gaim ROCKS! It's the most polished IM client I've ever seen in Linux, and it handles MSN just fine. Oh, I didn't even have to compile it or anything. The SourceForge RPM for RH8 works fine.
