I did and get the same error message.

I have the static version on a laptop with Slackware v10.0
and I do not get an error.

 'locate libqt' yields ->

/usr/lib/qt-3.3.2/lib/libqt-mt.so.3
/usr/lib/qt-3.3.2/lib/libqt-mt.prl
/usr/lib/qt-3.3.2/lib/libqt-mt.la
/usr/lib/qt-3.3.2/lib/libqt-mt.so
/usr/lib/qt-3.3.2/lib/libqt-mt.so.3.3.2
/usr/lib/qt-3.3.2/lib/libqt-mt.so.3.3
