just something more:
i do agree with this mail, just add bs=8k to your dd commands when you
deal with a floppy it will be a lot faster
so the commands are now:
dd if=/dev/fd0 of=/tmp/bootdsk bs=8k
dd if=/tmp/bootdsk of=/dev/fd0 bs=8k

Indeed, Karl is right. A bootdisk cannot be mounted... But I have a good
news for you: there is no need to mount a disk in order to make copies...
Assuming the boot disk is in /dev/fd0, try:
dd if=/dev/fd0 of=/tmp/bootdsk
change the bootdisk with a clean disk,
dd if=/tmp/bootdsk of=/dev/fd0
And don't forget to try it afterwards...
