I don't know about slack, it's been a long time since I've used that
dist., but, for RedHat, the files are in /var/log directory, most notably,
secure, messages and if you have a port watcher installed such as icmplog
and tcplog than there would be a daemon.log in there as well, or whatever
you named it in syslog.conf...
