Good point.  Administration skills is a must but I will argue the get the
newest patches part.  Just because they are up to date does not mean that
they are more stable or secure.  I'm not saying not to use patches right
when they come out but I'm telling you if you installing a patch watch how
the machine acts.

    My personal opinion is have good administrator skills.  Meaning in that
you set your permissions correctly (VERY IMPORTENT) and have the most
up-to-date apps and utilities.  Get the patches.  A lot of security holes
are fixed!  Then setup your other stuff...firewalls for example.
