Hi h,
Core files contain core dumps, a thing the OS does in dire times to give
you the opportunity to grovel over them in order to find out what went
wrong. So, if your system is running smoothly, they shouldn't happen at
all, much less accumulate. If you don't want to inspect them, it is
harmless to delete them.
