There is no easy way of doing that AFAIK.

Yes, although you shouldn't need them.

The fact that it is finding is sort of suggests that it isn't PnP.  This
could mean that the BIOS has tried to initialize it, possibly

Don't think you want that, BICBW.  Try removing it and see if that helps.
