installing fortran compiler

Dear Linux user,

I got a fortran compiler named g77. I did install it.
That was a mistake as I couldn't make even c-programs
after the installation. Now I can (after restoring
the "old" version of gcc),

but how do I get a working fortran compiler now?

My kde is a downloaded one, and the libraries have been
updated one by one when needed.
