i think i have read something about 16 bit sound blaster problem in 2.2.0
?
if someone can confirm this, you will have to use 2.2.2 to fix it.

Hi,
I found Kernel 2.2.0 on a magazine CD, and I installed it, set it up,
compiled and it works fine. I can now access FAT32 partitions, but
I have lost my sound support. I have an AWE32 which I had
modular support for in my old kernel 2.0.32, when I try to compile
2.2.0 with support built in it fails with an undefined reference in
soundess.o, when I try to use modular support there were no
modules with the new kernel. I have done a make modules and
make modules_install, but it leaves me with soundcore.o, and
insmod' ing it makes no difference. Sndconfig detects it, but what
can I try to get drivers for it?
