This mailing list stuff rocks!!!! I can't believe the response I got
from you people. I have asked everyone I know about a small version of
Linux, no one knew anything, but I got 12 responses from the list. I
have one more question. I have friend who has a bigger hard drive than
me and more everything than me. He said I could network on his
computer since he serves as a server on M.I.R.C. but I would have to
configure my TCP/IP protocol. I have read about 60 books related to
Linux, LANs, WANs, Novell, UNIX, and Windows NT and every time TCP/IP
comes up I read the something like this:
TCP/IP was develope by the Department of Defense's ARPNet
project.....so the protocol host is 123.456.7 or 000.245.245???? I
know that TCP/IP is a protocol and that data is transfered in things
called "packets"(got that from all the books). What I want to know is
what does it do and why is it necessary to have it? How does it differ
from Novel's protocols? The last question is can it work on my
computer so I can network with my friend. Remember my computer? 486
with 25MHz. I am going to upgrade memory and disk size due to all the
advice I got from my first question. Oh! by the way I have a 7K modem
in case you need to know. Thanks in advance and thanks to all who
responded to my first question.
