Do:
 ldd /usr/X11/bin/X |grep libc
if it answers starting
 libc.so.6 =>
you want glibc2.  IF
 libc.so.5 =>
you want libc5.
They are different versions of the c library, and you don't want to mix
them in the same run unit.
