Altho i dont use it and dont know where to find it, SOCKS is possably what
you need (want).

You can define a proxy server to use in lynx in the cfg file found in
/usr/lib/lynx there are examples explaned there.

You can also use your enviroment form /etc/profile such as;

export http_proxy=http://some.server.dom:port/
export ftp_proxy=http://some.server.dom:port/

The port is normaly 8080(httpd) or 3128(squid default).
