POP3 setup

Hi,
We installed POP3 server with RedHat5.2. 
Is there anything to configure to activate the post office functions?. 
ie. Keep messages on behalf of a user who connects to the server 
by using modem.
The problem we have is, It dosen't keep our message upto the 
connection established using PPP. We connected to the server
from a client running same version of Linux.
