As far as I understand it, vmware only emulates a virtual PC, with all
those hardware registers necessary. You can run DirectX on it, as you
can run Solaris and Linux and DOS an BeOS and ... anything that would
run on a 'normal' PC.
bottomline: vmware need not support *any* software for you to run it.
