Richard - either you are luckier than me or you consistently use better
hardware. I've seen this (kernel panic during install) many times, for many
different reasons, including both bad hardware (floppy drive, target hard
disk, motherboard/CPU) and bad install media (floppy or, once, the CD
itself). But you are right in that the original poster didn't say enough to
get a helpful answer. A **very** rough guess, just form when it occurred, is
bad memory or a m'bd/CPU problem -- but I wouldn't put money on it.
