Russel,
I am a brandnew newbie.
And QEdit is the 'only thing' I use for word-processing,
in MSDOS/WIN95. Aside from Notepad for quickies, long filenames.

Solution 1:
I installed editor 'JOE' from it's RPM. (I forgot how but
it must have been easy.) I was surprised of my own success.
It looks like QEdit.

Solution 2:
I type MC and there is MidnightCommander.
(I found it installed after using the auto-install of RH 5.0.)
It has editing capability.
It is a nice thing to have has lots of nice beginner's tools.

Keep the big stuff (Emacs, etc) for when you need it. They
require a lot of learning. Similar to Linux itself. (Too many
streets, dont know any of them, ending up in the wrong place,
 in a dead alley, usually.)
