Hi,

What have I done wrong?

ping to an almost local IP gives on my Linux avg. times above 200ms. On a
Win98 (same modem but diff. CPU) around 120ms. If I lover the packet size on
the Linux box I get around 150ms (-s 8), still slower than Win98.

Is this normal?

Both systems use the same ISP, same modem, both are PPP dialout systems.
